Tuesday, February 28, 2017 session at the JICC Conference Room

Some more great news for Nairobi Aikikai! We are now registered with the Registrar of Societies of Kenya and our official name is 'Nairobi Aikikai Club'.

It was an honour once again to have Piotr Borowski Sensei among us and he was at hand to guide us all through the entire session.

After a warm up session followed by a tutorial on Tai Sabaki, Piotr Sensei set the ball rolling with the following:

TACHI WAZA :

-Katatedori Tai no Tenkan Ho basics.

-Ai Hanmi Katatedori Ikkyo Omote & Ura.

-Katatedori Sumi Otoshi.

-Ai Hanmi Katatedori Shiho Nage opening basics.

SUWARI WAZA :

-Zagi Kokyu Ho.

I take this valuable opportunity to thank Piotr Borowski Sensei for the time he spent with us imparting his invaluable Aikido knowledge and skills. Domo arigato gozaimashita!

Thursday, February 23, 2017 session at the JICC Conference Room

Piotr Borowski Sensei kicked oof the session with a brief warm up session followed by basic Tai Sabaki as well as the basics of Tenkan, Irimi Tenkan, Kaiten and the importance of Kuzushi.

Piotr Sensei also reiterated the importance of all these movements while executing attacks/techniques in Aikido.

The rest was as follows:

TACHI WAZA :

-Tai no Tenkan Ho.

-Ai Hanmi Katatedori Ikkyo Omote & Ura.

-Basic movement of Shiho Nage using the 'open palm' demonstration.

-Katatedori (yes, Katatedori!) Tenchi Nage (focus on proper Kuzushi).

SUWARI WAZA :

-Zagi Kokyu Ho.

Tuesday, February 21, 2017 session at the JICC Conference Room

Nairobi Aikikai had the privilege of hosting two senior Aikido Sensei at the same time and place with Piotr Borowski Sensei (Rokudan) and Andreas Schriber Sensei (Godan) being present for this particular session.

Andi Sensei kicked off the session with a light warm up session which also included Mae and Ushiro Ukemi, Shikko and Ikkyo Undo.

The rest of the session was as follows:

-Ai Hanmi Katatedori Ikkyo Omote & Ura.

-Ai Hanmi Katatedori Kote Gaeshi Ura.

Andi Sensei reiterated the importance of constant practise and commitment, essential ingredients in growth.

Tuesday, February 14, 2017 session at the JICC Conference Room

Joshua Kohai guided us through a brief warm up session before we went through Mae and Ushiro Ukemi (both Suwari Waza & Tachi Waza) as well Mae Shikko courtesy of Toshiyuki San.

Later on, Toshiyuki San called a number of Aikidoka outside for a mock grading exercise while the rest of us continued with the following attacks/techniques:

SUWARI WAZA :

-Shomen Uchi Ikkyo Omote & Ura.

TACHI WAZA :

-Katatedori Shiho Nage Omote & Ura.

-Shomen Uchi (Kiawase) Ikkyo Omote & Ura.

-Katatedori Kokyu Nage (Kakarigeiko).

Haishin Undo ended the day's session.

Once again we had Toshiyuki San guiding is through the whole session which began with warm up exercises followed by Mae & Ushiro Ukemi (Suwari/Tachi Waza) as well as breakfalls.

The attacks/techniques that followed were:

SUWARI WAZA :

-Yokomen Uchi Ikkyo Omote & Ura.

-Zagi Kokyu Ho.

TACHI WAZA :

-Katatedori Kokyu Ho.

-Morote dori Kokyu Ho.

-Ryote dori Tenchi Nage Omote & Ura.

-Katatedori Kokyu Nage Omote.

We called it wraps with a good back stretch (Haishin Undo).

Toshiyuki San kicked off the day's session with his trademark Japanese style warm up exercises followed by Mae and Ushiro Ukemi from both Suwari Waza and Tachi Waza, a round of breakfalls as well as Mae Shikko before we embarked on the following attacks/techniques:

SUWARI WAZA (all Omote & Ura) :

-Shomen Uchi Ikkyo.

-Shomen Uchi Nikyo.

-Shomen Uchi Sankyo.

-Shomen Uchi Yonkyo.

-Shomen Uchi Irimi Nage.

-Zagi Kokyu Ho.

TACHI WAZA :

-Shomen Uchi (Kiawase) Irimi Nage Omote & Ura respectively.

-Ushiro Ryotedori Kote Gaeshi.

-Ushiro Ryotedori Irimi Nage.

Thursday, February 2, 2017 session at the JICC Conference Room

It has been a while since Tony Sempai joined us for an Aikido session and i was glad to see him go through the warm up exercises with us before he left to join the Karate session in the main multipurpose hall.

Toshiyuki San guided us through the warm up session followed by Mae and ushiro Ukemi (Suwari Waza for the novices and Tachi Waza for the more experienced Aikidoka) as well as breakfalls and Mae Shikko before we went through the following attacks/techniques:

TACHI WAZA :

-Morote dori Kokyu Ho / Genkei Kokyu Nage.

-Ai Hanmi Katatedori Uchi Kaiten Nage (Omote & Ura).

-Yokomen Uchi Gokyo (Omote & Ura).

SUWARI WAZA :

-Zagi Kokyu Ho / Ryote dori Genkei Kokyu Nage.

We wrapped up the day's session with Haishin Undo.
