Friday, June 21, 2013 session at the JICC main hall

Having missed out on last Friday's session, I was eagerly awaiting today's session which was once again under the supervision of Kenya's first ever Aikido uchi deshi in Poland-Daniel Sempai.

We kicked off the session with a good warm up session that included my favourite ''move''-Shikko which was quite challenging for the newcomers but all in all it was a fantastic warm up session.

The two hour session mainly focused on the Katatedori (Gyaku Hanmi Katatedori) stance and it kicked off with Shiho Nage Omote followed by Ikkyo Omote this time executed using the famous ''pitch fork'' technique that is common with the Birankai branch of Aikido.

What stood out for me was the move beginning from a Katatedori stance where Tori brings down Uke by taking him/her down capitalising on the ''weak spot'' at the peak of the ''imaginary triangle'' behind him/her.

After the session we held a small discussion on the way forward for us in terms of Aikido and going by yesterday's discussion, it seems next Friday's meeting will be an event not to miss out on.

NEXT SESSION:TUESDAY, JUNE 25 @ THE JICC CONFERENCE ROOM.
